Day 5 Getting to Farsund

That was a very good stay. The breakfast was delicious and as it was all inclusive - we filled our boots to the brim. We enjoyed Sarpsborg very much and would certainly recommend this hotel.
Location perfect, a stunning hotel set in it's own grounds, very quiet. Morning is looking good so after the breaky, let's get on our way!!
So off to Farsund, which is at least 7 hours away - this included a very unexpected ferry from Moss. A mini adventure! We have now moved away from motorways and are going to ride the rest of Norway on the main and the side roads. What a choice this was today!

However 1st, the ferry - a 20 minute crossing on a roll on roll off boat. What we didn't know is just how many roll-on, roll-off ferries we were about tot encounter over the next couple of weeks...
Turning North from the other side of the ferry and heading into the mountains - incredible roads which included mountain passes, winding sweeping roads through dense forests, lakeside roads and everything in between.

This is why we ride bikes and this is why we have come to Norway. The only pictures are from a little café that we stopped for a cup of tea, as we just rode and rode for hours, covering great distances without getting out of the saddle. This day made up for the endless (albeit beautiful) dual carriageways and motorways to get so far North.
It's impossible to explain how great the riding has been today, but just imagine your favourite thing to do, and you've just had the very best day doing it. Well that's what today was like for us. We were only marginally over the speed limit all the way (speed limit is quite low) so just enjoyed the views and the scenery and the beauty of this place.

A great 2 hour section following a Tesla that obvs new the roads well, so we could fly behind it - as I said impossible to describe...

Found yet another café, as it was the only one that seemed to be open. Didn't eat but had refreshing coffees and a good stretch of the legs.
Now for the last leg, alongside the lakes in the rain that had hit us for the 1st time - we didn't mind, we just rode as normal trusting the tyres and the riding experience to keep the momentum.

Pulled into the gate of the hotel and our hearts sank, as we knew it was going to be VERY expensive!!! Beautiful hotel on the side of the Fjord with our rooms over looking the waters' edge.

So £37.50 for 3 beers and this is what £18.00 looks like!!!! Now this has to be outrageous. Mrs C and P had 3 1/2 beers each over the course of the evening and it way nearly £100 - who can afford to live here?

So on to the dinner with much trepidation (not about the food, but about the bill at the end of it!!!!) No need to worry, the food was fantastic and the price unexpectedly reasonable. Probably 25% higher than we'd pay at home but that was fine and it was exceptional. We were hoping for nice fish and we were not disappointed!!!

Fish soup to start and Halibut for the main - yum yum.

Was going to opt for a glass of wine, but at £13.75 for a thimble full, and I mean a thimble full was the last straw!! We couldn't justify that, so stuck with beer. It worked out that a bog standard bottle of Chianti would have been in excess of £50 - no, nope and nope again!!!!

This is the last time we are going to mention prices, as it's boring me to talk about them - suffice to say it is VERY VERY expensive - That's it, no more now....

So off to bed and getting ready for this.....
